More evidence Twitter is failing to keep users interested

Saturday, 31 July 2010

Just read a very interesting article on Slate that discusses that while Twitter may be good at getting people to signup, keep users engaged is very difficult to do:

The study dovetails with recent analysis by the media research firm Nielsen asserting that 60 percent of Twitter users do not return from one month to the next. Both findings suggest that, thus far, Twitter has been considerably better at signing up users than keeping them.

I have commented in the past that I don't see the value in Twitter (other than the cool technology behind it), and seems the research is backing me up :) And I would also suggest that for value terms, we should update the description of a 'new user' on Twitter as someone who ".has posted more than 5 tweets over a 4 week period" or something similar. Food for thought.
