How to get PHP talking to MySQL on Mac OS X

Saturday, 31 July 2010

Left the trusty Mac Book Pro at home today, so using my Apple Mac Mini as my main dev machine today, and other than the terrible outlook web access on exchange for non IE users, things are rocking along nicely!

Because I'm running Mac OS X, no .NET work today, and instead I got back into some of the PHP coding I've been doing on Wordpress lately. I wanted to get an install up and running but kept getting an error saying the PHP couldn't connect to MySQL server. I could log on from the terminal window, but no joy via PHP.

After some digging around, I found this article describing how to connect to MySQL from PHP on Mac OS X. Stupid it doesn't work out of the box, but at least its now working.

Will be interesting to see what other curve balls developing on Mac OS X throws at me, and how poor my spelling will be without Live Writer to do my spell checks :)
